January 13, 2025 (SEATTLE), Cascade Party of Washington (CPW) held its organizing convention on Saturday, January 11 at the Sorrento Hotel in Seattle.

The new CPW is being positioned politically as centrist / moderate. Highlights of its platform include support of: funding public safety and diversion programs such as drug courts and crisis counseling. The party also stated how it recognizes the role of markets and trade’s role in our prosperity, while acknowledging government’s role in cultivating a fair and efficient economy. Government has an obligation to find solutions to poverty, homelessness and protect its citizens.

The entire platform is available here.

Krist Novoselić, noted Washington State musician, was elected as CPW Chair and the party elected officers forming a well-rounded board of 12 members representing every corner and part of the state.

Novoselić stated, “Voters are looking for something different and the Cascade Party is remaining positive while seeking pragmatism in our current polarized political environment”.

The newly-elected Chair also notes, “We have runoff elections in Washington, and this can overcome some of the systemic barriers 3rd parties face in other states. Part of being viable is to get into the top two runoff. Another part is standing good candidates with support of a party advocating values rural and urban voters can connect with”.

Formed in the spring of 2024, the CPW engaged the process of obtaining bona fide party status. Washington only allows such a process during the year of a US presidential election. CPW met the requirements and now has access to the same campaign finance rules as the respective Republican and Democratic parties.

The CPW operates its own social media and has an innovative organizational system — social media operated by a political party. Washington voters, who accept the site’s user agreement are made members. Cascade Party's open source web application does not track users or sell their information to advertisers; nor will ads be seen on the CPW social media site. Novoselić adds, “We don’t consider our members products. We use the power of social networking to empower people”.

The Cascade Party is continually seeking new, engaged members to participate on our private social media and is positioning itself to engage in local elections in 2025, with an eye on 2026 and beyond.
